I’ve been a big fan of Robert Rankin’s tall tales for around half of my life now. Time magazine referred to him as the drinking man’s HG Wells once and there is something in that. Two of his greatest creations are Pooley and Omally, two gents who put more effort into earning a dishonest living than they would working properly. The phrase uttered in the opening panel is one of their best, and one I wish I had the balls to utter in our local.
